BIO

Hi My Name is Colin Carter and I am a Nature photographer living in the North East of the UK on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park.

Most of my spare time is spent either photographing landscapes or Wildlife in the UK and occassionally abroad. I am really fortunate that i can share my passion for photography with a group of friends who share that same passion and, for me, there is nothing better than standing on a shoreline waiting for the sun to rise over a mountain range or sat in a hide for hours at a time hoping for that moment when an animal or bird comes into range of your lens and been able to share that experience with close friends.

Nature photography is often seen as a solitary persuit but there is no reason for it to be that way. Been able to share ideas, hints and tips etc is wonderfull and passes the time while your waiting, usually freezing cold or wet, for that magic moment to arrive.

When the photography is over for the day, you can share a beer and a nice meal with friends, chat about the day, laugh about mistakes made, how you thought it went and talk about whats in store for the following day. This is what makes Nature photography for me.

MY STORY

Ever since my parents bought me my first camera at the age of 11, a Canon EOS 1000FN film camera with 2 lenses, just before our family holiday to California I have loved photography. It's taken over my life for the last 30 odd years. I came back from that Holiday with nearly 100 roles of film to process.

As time passed on and I finished Univesity and got a job, it allowed me to purchase more and better equipment and my last film camera was a Canon EOS 1V. Eventually, as digital came to the fore and the quality reached a certain level, I made the switch to digital with a Canon EOS D60 (6 megapixel) Digital SLR.

Over the years i've moved from Canon to Nikon (D300, D3, D4s, D5) and then back to Canon with the 5dsr and 1dx Mark 2, in between trying out Fuji, Olympus and Sony cameras). I am a Platinum member of Canon Professional Services and Nikon Professional Services.

Recently i've made the switch back to a Canon EOS R system and Canon L series Lenses from 24mm upto 600mm. I just love using Canon cameras and lenses, their ergonomics, build quality and support I get from Canon Professional Services are second to none. As I update this page, I have the Canon Eos R5 on order which i am really looking forward to using.

I think photographers are all "Tech Geeks" in our own ways and love using new technology which is now inherently planted into the world of digital photography and there is no escape from it.

I have atttained the distinction of Associateship with the Royal Photographic Society in their Nature Division and had 2 entries receive distinctions in the Scottish Nature Photography Awards in 2015.

Many of my photographs have been used in publications such as Countryfile magazine where they published an article on White Tailed Sea Eagles in Scotland. I also submit images to stock libraries such as Getty Images and Alamy.

I hope you enjoy my Website and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me and I always endeavour to answer all emails as quickly as possible.
